hi guys! this is a comic i made for a final in my comics in literature class. we had to do a research paper on a topic we’d discussed in class and then accompany it with a comic with a relevant subject. my paper was about hyper-sexualization of women in comic books, but i decided to broaden it out here as well as personalize it and make myself the subject and discuss something i’ve been subjected to in the convention circuit and on the internet as well as thousands of other women, as well as give a cue to thought about how the comic book industry as well as the video game industry and even just media in general (all of which are male dominated) push such ridiculous pressures onto girls and women.

also, it feels kind of silly to have to add this since i hope it’s obvious, but i am very aware that there are men that don’t subscribe to this attitude, and am incredibly grateful that these issues are brought to light to people other than the ones that are subjected to it.

anyway haha i have literally been staring at this for 9 hours i don’t even know which direction is up anymore. thanks for reading!!!

I made cake pops for Easter with my roommate Misha, aka Imaginary Butler, which we then devoured at his parents house. We made them egg shaped and decorated most of them to look like Easter eggs, but we made six of them look kind-of-ish like the members of SPG. We had a very limited color palette to work with. It was super fun and they still turned out super cute! Also super delicious.

I did this for my Intro to Print class, the theme was “the self”. I’m Irish on my father’s side and Daugherty comes for O’Doherty, so I decided to do and interpretation of my families crest. Ar Ndutcas is the family motto in Gaelic, it means “Our Heritage.

I have two rats named Buddha and Artemis, and for a few different projects I did a rat Buddha. Then I was looking at other gods to turn into rats for a project in my intro to print class and did a little Kali rat. I think Kali is awesome so I used the idea for my screenprinting class.

First print was a postcard, I went with a space theme.

Second print, Fine art print, This is Rat Kali, I was influenced by the iconography of the Hindu goddess Kali.

Third Print, Rock Poster, Steam Powered Giraffe band poster. Yes they're robots, yes they are real and awesome!

I added a printing minor to go along with my illustration major, so I have to take 5 print classes. Right now I’m taking Intro to Printmaking and Screenprinting. These are here are the illustrator mockups of the first two screenprints I did and the current one I’m working on. I need to get scans of the actual prints that I made as they are quite different from what you see here. I used these to make the positives for my screens. I’ll brake each print down in a later post when I can get scans of the print and when I have the time. At the moment I just felt like sharing what I’ve been up to.

A lovely moment is seeing an old friend,

Recognizing the unique tone of their voice,

The familiar curve of the lips in a smile, an earth-shifting hug

From not seeing them in ages.

A lovely moment is lying outside with the wind

Gently ruffling your hair, the summer sunbeams

Stroking your cheek, the bees tickling the flowers

As your hand brushes the grass.

A lovely moment is on the playground, high in the air

Cradled in a rubber swing, those five seconds

When you feel weightless and your heart soars to the clouds,

Even as the cold metal chain anchors you

To the ground.

I have lost my splendor, my lovely shine.

My sides give a bit, when you press even lightly.

My skin is puckered and darkening.

I might still be sweet to taste, in a sickly sort a way.

The only one’s who will eat me now, are the birds.

But if you would be so kind, and not throw me out.

Plant me in the ground where the earth is rich.

So that I might grow, to be a cherry tree.

But today one of my friends came up to me and handed me this. It’s a little Steven Merchant! And he can hand on the top of my laptop and smile at me while I’m tumbling or arting or whatever!

It really, really brightened my day a ton! How can I not smile when Smerch is smiling at me?

I made a thing for a friend who was having a bad day. I hope he keeps you smiling when your feeling blue!
